Mission & Vision

Ranong Recycle for Environment is a social enterprise created in 2019 with the support of the Swiss Jan & Oscar Foundation.

We support the collection of certified Ocean Bound plastic from islands and coastal areas in the South of Thailand. The plastic is purchased and recycled by our partner Tide Ocean Material to produce new high quality objects and textiles.

Our social mission is at the core of our values. We promote, support and collaborate with individuals and communities who are the most disadvantaged. This include the Moken people, a discriminated ethnic group living on the Andaman Sea Islands. Our project “Moken guardians of the sea” received an IUCN Circular Economy grant in 2020 under the Marplasticcs program.

Our enterprise mission includes education, professional training, employment, integration and sustainable development. Our trusted team living in Ranong are here to develop long-term projects, including the educational mission of the Jan and Oscar Foundation.

(English below)

📸 Let's take a look back at a project that left its mark on our foundation.

From 2019 to 2022, we supported an educational programme for young girls from mountain villages where poverty, domestic violence, drug abuse and human trafficking pose very real threats.

At a social centre run by nuns, the girls found refuge, protection and, above all, a new chance in life.

As well as learning to grow crops, cook, sew and create, they learn to understand their rights, protect themselves and rebuild their lives after often having experienced abuse.

This home has become a place of dignity and hope for them, where education goes hand in hand with independence and a brighter future.

(English below)

đź’§ The school located on the island of Had Sai Dam, which is 25 km away from Ranong, welcomes every day 104 children.

However, they lack something essential: drinking water.

The island's well only provides brackish water, which is unfit for consumption. Pupils therefore have to bring their own bottles of water from home or rely on the limited supply provided by the school. This complicates their daily lives and limits their learning conditions.

Together with the headmistress and teachers, we are working on a simple, sustainable solution: installing a filtration machine that can provide around 100 litres of drinking water per day for all pupils.

This concrete project will immediately improve these children's lives and contribute to their health and academic success. Together, we can make this happen.
